Homemade Fly-Tying Station

So the time has come to put the fly tying station up that my dad and I built. Since every station seemed to be $140 online and expensive everywhere else we built our own. The station was built from scrap wood. The station's base that the vise sits on is from an old sewing machine. Everything else was left over from other projects that was in my dad's shop. It took about 3 weeks, but that was the simple fact that life gets in the way sometimes. I could never have done this without my dad. He was the brains behind the operation. I just had an idea of what I wanted. The original idea was to just have a station and nothing more, but my dad really wanted to put a drawer in it. I didn't want to put him through that trouble, but he makes a good drawer. The only thing to complete it besides my lack of spare bobbins and my thread supply being low is a drawer pull. Homemade Minnow Jar Trap

So I am in the middle of organizing and getting christmas decorations put up before I start school again next semester. What do I stumble upon? My homemade minnow trap I made about 3 years ago. I learned what a minnow jar trap was when I was out in a creek one summer with a friend. This older fellow had a Jar in the water with bread in it and a lot of minnows. He bought the jar from an auction for like 40 dollars and said they are hard to find and expensive. Well I decided nah I can make my own. So thats what I did... I don't fish with minnows much anymore, because I fly fish mostly. For those of you that do fish with minnows and have access to a creek with minnows this might be helpful. First what is a minnow jar trap? There may be an actual name for it, but thats what a I call it. This is a traditional style jar that was similar to what the guy at the creek had. A look at 2014

2014 was a great year for me. I kept a 4.0 the entire year and got into nursing school. I got married to a beautiful woman. I started fly fishing and fly tying. I got my fly rod combo kit from Cabela's which I got for christmas. I did a review last february on it. I might do an update on that combo itself since I have more experience with it now. Then for my birthday I got a fly tying kit. I had barely fished and thought to myself I must look crazy having fly fished about 4 times and already wanting to tie my own flies. I felt that fly fishing is an art, but that tying your own flies is even more of an art. It allowed me to get closer to fly fishing and learn more about it. I am still learning as much as a I can.
